Melbourne-Sydney High Speed Rail Link

Greens Leader Bob Brown has launched a campaign at Southern Cross Station calling on the federal government to fund a major concept study into a High Speed Rail (HSR) link between Melbourne and Sydney. With the equivalent flight route the fourth busiest in the world, the HSR link would provide a sustainable alternative connecting the cities in four hours. The Greens have costed the project at $40 billion. The launch follows a report released in January by the Cooperative Research Centre for Rail Innovation which also supports a concept study.
