The City of Melbourne has published a Municipal Strategic Statement (MSS) prepared by the Future Melbourne Committee outlining how “the municipality’s projected growth and development will be accommodated and managed over the coming decades”. The document sets out a vision for the city defined by six high level goals and the factors that will underpin their achievement. Areas of the municipality are then defined according to three specific types:

  • Stable Areas
  • Ongoing Change Areas
  • Urban Renewal Areas

This characterisation is used to define appropriate growth and development within each area. If councillors accept the report it will be forwarded to Planning Minister Justin Madden for approval prior to a public exhibition and consultation period.
