Vote stops city expansion

The Age reports “The state government has scrapped plans to expand Melbourne’s outer limits after a tax on land sales in growth areas was defeated in the upper house”. The Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution Bill proposed introducing a levy of $95,000 per hectare to help fund infrastructure costs in new suburbs. The Liberal, National and Green party’s voted against the bill.
